Privacy policy — Morse Code

Last updated: October 31, 2026

This privacy policy applies to the mobile app "Morse Code" (App Store name "Morse Code Translator & games", bundle ID com.lduboscq.Morse-Code; Google Play listing "Morse Code: Learn & Translate", package name com.appkickstarter.morsecode), called "the App" below.

The App is developed and published by Louis Duboscq, an independent developer (developer name on Google Play: "Louis Duboscq"; website: appkickstarter.com). Louis Duboscq is the data controller for the data described in this policy.

1. Summary

2. Data stored only on your device

The following data is stored on your phone only. It never leaves your device, we cannot access it, and it is not backed up to our servers:

Audio files you create with the Export feature are generated on your phone. They are only shared when you choose to do so, through the sharing app you pick.

Deleting the App deletes all of this data.

3. Data that leaves your device

a) Crash reports

When the App crashes or hits an error, it sends anonymous technical data to Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., sentry.io), our crash reporting provider: the error and where it happened, the phone's operating system and App version, and the names of the screens opened just before the problem (never what you typed). It contains nothing that identifies you or your phone. You can turn this off at any time in Settings > "What is sent". Purpose: finding and fixing bugs. Retention: up to 90 days.

b) Anonymous usage statistics

The App sends to PostHog (PostHog Inc., posthog.com, servers in the European Union) which features are used, for example that a lesson was finished, a practice mode or a tool was opened, or the Premium screen was shown — never what you typed, translated or keyed. The only text that can come with these statistics is the optional "Other" answer to the first-launch question "Why do you want to learn Morse?": on Android only, if you choose "Other" and type a few words (80 characters at most; you can leave the field empty), that text is sent with your answer, only to help us understand why people learn Morse code and improve the App. On iPhone and iPad (Kids category), "Other" is a simple choice: no text field, nothing typed is ever sent. Each event comes with a random identifier (replaced by a new one every 30 days on iPhone and iPad), the App version, the operating system, the language and the screen size. On iPhone and iPad the App never sends the phone model, its name or identifiers, the network or carrier, the time zone or the internet address; on Android, the usual technical properties of the phone (model, system version, type of network connection) may also come with the events, never your name or any identifier of you or of the phone. PostHog may work out the country from the internet address when the statistics arrive; only the country is kept, not the address, region or city. There are no user profiles, no screen recording, and statistics are never linked to a person. You can turn this off at any time in Settings > "What is sent" (the "Anonymous statistics and crash reports" switches; statistics have their own switch). Purpose: understanding which lessons and tools help, to improve the App. Retention: up to 1 year.

c) Purchases

Subscriptions and purchases are processed by the App Store or Google Play; we never see payment details. A parental gate is shown before any purchase or restore. To check Premium status, the App uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.), which receives an anonymous app user ID and the purchase history (product, dates, renewal status). Purpose: unlocking Premium and restoring purchases.

d) Ideas board — only what you post

The Ideas tab lets you suggest ideas and vote. If you post or vote, the App sends the text you write, your votes, an anonymous random device identifier, the App version, your platform and language to Supabase (Supabase, Inc.), our hosting provider for the board. Requests are checked by us before they appear to other users. On iPhone and iPad the Ideas tab is behind the parental gate and the App never asks for or sends an email address; on Android you may enter an email address, only if you choose to (it is never shown publicly and only used to reply to you). Requests are not translated by an AI service and are not sent to one: they are shown in the language in which they were written. Do not include personal information in your posts.

We do not use any advertising SDK, we do not track you across apps or websites, we do not ask for or collect a name, email, photo, location or contact, and we do not sell or share personal data with data brokers or advertisers.

4. Device permissions and features

The App does not use photos, contacts or location.

5. Children

The App is designed to be safe for children, in line with the App Store Kids category rules and with laws protecting children's privacy (such as COPPA in the United States and the GDPR in Europe):

If you are a parent and have a question about your child's use of the App, write to hey@appkickstarter.com.

6. Legal bases (GDPR)

Data sent to our providers may be processed outside the European Union (in particular in the United States), under the safeguards those providers offer (such as Standard Contractual Clauses).

7. Retention and your rights

Data on your device stays there until you delete it or the App. Crash reports are kept up to 90 days, usage statistics up to 1 year.

You can ask to access or delete the data described in section 3, or object to its processing, by writing to hey@appkickstarter.com. As there is no account and only anonymous identifiers, we usually cannot link data to a person; turning off the switch in Settings stops any new data. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in France: the CNIL).

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy, for example when the App starts sending something new. The date at the top shows the latest version, and important changes are announced in the App.
